Originally laid out in 1732, Camden is South Carolina’s oldest inland city. Promoted as the “Steeplechase Capital of the World,” Camden hosts the annual Carolina Cup (spring) and Colonial Cup (fall) horse races. Camden was occupied by British troops in 1780-81 and the Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site offers a view of life during the Colonial and Revolutionary War periods.
