Straddling the Richland-Lexington County line near Lake Murray, Irmo is one of Columbia’s most prominent suburbs. Like many South Carolina towns, it began as a train stop, its name coming from the first two letters of the last names of two of the town’s founders, C.J. Iredell and Henry Moseley. Each fall the town hosts the Okra Strut Festival.
